One of the best things about working from home is being able to still enjoy breakfast and lunch with my husband and daughter during the school holidays. One of the worst things about working from home is not being able to join in when I can hear them having fun downstairs.

We’ve spent the last couple of weeks since moving to Devon, alternating between days out together and days at home. Days out mean I am often up late working in the evenings. Days at home mean I can buckle on down with work in the office while Frog is kept entertained by her dad in the garden or living room.

The (self-proclaimed) Northern Love Machine is a teacher, so he’s around lots at the moment. And it’s been lovely to see him getting to enjoy some quality time with our three year old while he’s off work.

Last week one of our home days was spent with me working upstairs while he and Frog played with a brand new toy.

Fisher Price House

The Fisher Price Happy Sounds Happy Home is just one of the offerings in the Little People range. At three years old, Frog is probably at the top end of the age range for this toy, but she enjoyed playing with it nevertheless.

Featuring lots of fun noises, catchy musical notes and characters to explore, the Happy Sounds Happy Home has enough to keep toddlers busy for a while. It’s great for solo play, as there are lots of elements to explore, but also makes for the perfect toy to play with together.

I have to confess, I could hear Frog and her dad having so much fun downstairs that I took the opportunity to grab a five minute break from the computer and sneak down to join them. It was the moment when my three year old told me, “Not now Mummy, we busy” that I knew she was having fun.

I peeped around the door and spied on them talking, giving the characters names, then driving them in the car to “the shops” and back again “for tea”. Funny how my 6’5″ Rochdalian husband can completely get into character when his wife’s not around to laugh at him!

The Little People range is all about encouraging toddlers to learn through experimental play and get creative with their imaginations. If it was a year ago, I can imagine Frog would have spent more time getting to grips with the buttons and musical noises, but now she is at the next phase she was more interested in pretending the people were real and having conversations with each other. It was pretty cute to witness.

I’d definitely recommend the Happy Sounds Happy Home as a present for a toddler around the eighteen month to two year mark, because I think they’d get more time to play with it and the way they play with it would change over time. That said, it was met with a huge smile of approval from my three year old, so we’re giving it a big thumbs up.
