I have a guilty secret. It’s not big and it’s not clever.

I am a sucker for a bit of online shopping.

Not just any online shopping, but Twitter online shopping, blog online shopping, phone app online shopping.

I see a pretty product and I click. With just one press of the mouse a whole new world opens before me. I’m left dazzled, in awe of the shiny new homeware, fashion, toddler apparel…

But I don’t need it. Not really. I mean, I do *need* a new coat. And new shoes are always welcome. As is that perfect utensil holder. And bathroom shelf. And cushion, oh how I love a cushion.

No, really, I don’t need it.

I just want it. And the more I go online, the more I’m confronted with beautiful things to lust after. Considering most of my working life is spent online I’ve got no hope really.

I’m not even safe on a Friday night. One slurp of the wine and I’m back, gingerly clicking on Twitter links and perusing blog posts showing me the very latest in this season’s style. The wine goes to my head, I gaze at my tired living room and worn out shoes and TA-DAAA! I’m the proud owner of something new and sparkly.

And then I go to bed, forget all about it and think someone’s sent me a present when it’s delivered three days later.

So I’ve taken control of the situation. I’ve had to do something drastic. I’ve deleted the shopping app on my phone, set up a direct debit straight into my savings account at the beginning of every month and limited myself to just a couple of new purchases that I truly, TRULY need, every few weeks.

I’m still searching for that special cushion though. If I find it, I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to stay strong.

How about you? What are your online shopping habits? You can share, we’re all friends here….
