There’s one thing that has dominated much of my waking hours of thought for the past 14 months and that’s sleep. It’s funny how much you can miss something once it’s gone. It’s no secret that Baby Girl has always been a pretty unreliable sleeper and there have been many times over the past year when I’ve struggled to cope with the sleep deprivation. Although she still doesn’t regularly sleep through the night (who am I kidding – she basically never sleeps through the night!) one thing I will give her credit for is going to bed. We’ve never had any huge issues actually getting her to bed, it’s keeping her asleep for longer than four hours in a row that’s the problem!
Even in the very early days we had quite a rigid bedtime routine. This was partly because Baby Girl had to slot into her older sister’s already well worn bedtime routine of bath, story and bed. It’s always been easier just to bathe both of them at the same time to avoid bedtime taking up hours and hours of our evening.
Bathtime is always a bit of a pamper session in our house. Both girls love to play in the bubbles and would happily sleep in the bath if I let them. This is the time of day when we put on lotions and potions, cut tiny nails, tease out knots in unruly hair. Recently we’ve been using the Kokoso organic coconut oil for babies, which has definitely added another indulgent, pampery element to the evening bedtime ritual.
At 14 months old Baby Girl is too energetic and busy to stay still for long enough to enjoy a good baby massage session, but she does quite enjoy that post-bath mini massage when I rub the cream into her body. It really seems to relax her and get her into the “bedtime zone”. She has quite sensitive skin and I’ve always been very wary of what I put on it, so it’s encouraging to know this cream is 100% organic and totally natural. In fact, it smells good enough to eat.
Every coconut used in the Kokoso baby oil comes from a certified organic family-run farm in Thailand. Pretty cool to know exactly where the product comes from that I’m rubbing in my baby’s skin every night – I definitely can’t say that of everything we use!
The other thing I love about Kokoso is that, just like every good baby pamper product, it’s just as useful for me as my baby. I suffer from really dry, cracked skin on my hands at this time of year and the Kokoso oil has been incredibly soothing. That’s how I know it’s good.
This time last year I made a little film of our baby bedtime routine so I thought it might be fun to do the same again a year on. You can see how we use Kokoso in this film too – it’s one of the rare moments in the film when Baby Girl is actually still!
You can buy Kokoso baby oil from the Kokoso website, with prices starting from £5.49. Thanks to Kokoso for working with me on this post.
