Review: The BT 7500 Lightshow Monitor

BT baby monitor

I’m going to begin this review with a quote from my husband: “Bloody baby gadgets. Is there any-bloody-thing they won’t invent? It’ll be bloody robots next.”

That was what he said when the BT 7500 Lightshow Monitor arrived recently. Call him Negative Ned (I do) but he was being a major downer on the latest thing I’d agreed to review. Hater.

Anyway, a few weeks on and he’s no longer a hater. You see, my husband is a gadgets FIEND. He loves a gadget. He’s an IT teacher and a gamer and a massive fan of anything that’s even a little bit gadgety. So the all-singing, all-dancing BT 7500 Lightshow Monitor is, actually, right up his street.

Here are a few things we love about the 7500 Lightshow Monitor:

1. It’s really, REALLY easy to use

2. It plays lullabies – a whole range of them (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Brahms Lullabies etc). You can choose to put the same one on repeat or play them in a sequence.

3. It plays white noise – again, a whole range of options. Nature sounds, hairdryer noise etc, there are many choose from.

4. It has a talk-back option. This comes in particularly handy when you’re trying to hiss-whisper advice (instructions) to your other half for how to settle the baby.

5. It has a light show. And not just any light show. One with planets and stars that move around too.

6. You can control the camera angle from the monitor downstairs, so if your baby moves around in the cot you can track them via the monitor.

7. It’s a touch-screen, so dead easy to use.

8. The camera that goes in the baby’s room also has a night light on it.

9. You can connect other cameras to the monitor if you want to.

10. You can control the volume of the white noise or music from the monitor downstairs.

11. The monitor has six hours of battery life so you can carry it from room to room and not worry about plugging it in.

Other than put the baby to bed, there’s really little the BT 7500 Lightshow Monitor doesn’t do. Digging deep (and I mean DEEP) my only criticism is that the light show only projects vertically upwards, so if the camera is on the opposite side of the room to your baby they might not see the stars and planets right above them. But as I said, that’s me being really picky.

It’s not cheap at nearly £180, but that’s what you pay for for a top of the range baby monitor which is far more than just a camera. For me, I think it’s worth the money. I like the fact I can see my baby as well as hear her on the monitor, plus all the extra features save us money on other inevitable gadgets (night lights and white noise apps to name but a few).

I’ll give my geeky gadget-obsessed husband the last word: “I think it’s got a good build quality and an excellent camera.”

So there you have it.
