Brother Max gorgeousness

This is the latest offering from one of my favourite baby and toddler ware designers, Brother Max. The exceptionally trendy (far too trendy to be just for children, I might add) easy-hold plates and easy-hold 2-in-1 snack pot.

I have a thing about quirky stuff. Ever since I started my blog and started searching for products online, I realised that gorgeous baby and toddler products do exist. And stuff doesn’t necessarily have to be pink for girls, blue for boys or cream to represent neutrality. It also doesn’t have to feature pictures of teddy bears or fairies or cars.

And because I love the individual, as well as the useful, I have been constantly drawn to the products made by the ever innovative Brother Max brand. From bath toys to thermometers, high chairs to plates, the products all have one thing in common: they are cool with a capital C.

Take these easy-hold plates, for example. They come in a lime green and bright pillar box red. They’re rimmed at the edges to prevent spills and they have a cute little handle for mini (and independent) little fingers to grasp hold of.

My 22 month old foodie is definitely a fan:

Red is for beans on toast

She likes to mix it up a bit and change the colours around depending on her meal:

Green is for breakfast

She also rather likes the easy-hold 2-in-1 snack pot. It’s a ladybird, you see. And ladybirds are (at the moment) one of her favourite things. She also likes to put her hands through the clever non-spill lid. It seems to create the effect of a lucky dip type scenario.

Her excitement is huge, even if it’s only a raisin that she pulls out each time:

Frog and Larry The Ladybird

If you’re looking for some new hardwearing, stylish and quirky kitchenware for your toddler, I definitely recommend these products from Brother Max.

Now all they need to do is design some larger ones, for me.

I’ve made no secret in the past of my love for the innovative and stylish baby gadget brand Brother Max. In fact, I was almost wanting not to like their latest offering, in the hope of becoming a bit less predictable.

Sorry folks.

They’ve done it again. The dual purpose plug in nightlight is another item I wish I’d known about this time 19 months ago.

Far from being your ordinary nightlight, this one is so intuitive it can actually tell if it’s dark already. That’s right – you don’t even need to switch it on. Imagine those milk feeds at 3am, with no need to maneouvre a baby in one hand and find a light switch with the other….

Automatic "darkness detectors". Genius.

The light plugs straight into a socket, so doesn’t cast a disruptive glare across the whole room. Instead, it sits quietly glowing in the corner. The light’s so relaxing I can almost see it being used in a high end spa meditation room, rather than a baby’s bedroom. It even stays cold, so no need to worry about tiny fingers touching a hot light. Genius.

And it has the option of not being covered, so other appliances can be plugged into the same socket. Like so:

Hoover friendly. Or whatever appliance takes your fancy.

Or if you’re worried about wandering little fingers, you can always choose to keep the socket covered…

The anti-wandering fingers version.

I have to say, I’m not surprised those clever inventors at Brother Max have pulled another cracker out of the bag. They’ve already showed off their talents in the baby gadget stakes with the likes of their room and bath thermometer. Oh, and don’t forget about their easy to use digital thermometer.

In fact, check out all the products on the website. They’ve found solutions to problems I didn’t even know were an issue – until I found the product to rectify it. And their bath toys look incredibly cute.

But, so far, the night light is definitely my favourite of all the products. I just wish they’d invented it earlier.

How selfish of them.

The Brother Max dual purpose nightlight costs £9.99 and is available to pre-order from Mother Care.

This is the display on your brand spanking new Brother Max Bath And Room Thermometer…

Finally I have proof that our bathroom is the coldest room in the house, despite what the (self-proclaimed) Northern Love Machine says.

We’ve been testing out the Brother Max Ray Digital Bath and Room Thermometer for the past week. So far it’s proved that it’s extremely cold in the bathroom, Frog’s room and our living room. In fact, the only place where the temperature doesn’t induce frost bite seems to be in the bath.

That’s the brilliant thing about this thermometer, see. It measures the temperature in both the room AND the bath. The clever design means it doubles up as floating bath toy (a Sting Ray, to be precise) as well as a thermometer.

Genius.

When I started blogging just over a year ago, I never ever pictured myself as the type of person to attend a blogging event.

In my head, people who blogged all carried laptops around with them everywhere they went and spoke in mysterious lingo, using terms like “SEO”, “link-backs” and “RSS feeds”. In short, they didn’t sound like the type of people I’d have anything in common with.

But then I started actually reading blogs and I realised this wasn’t the case. Bloggers are as diverse as the world around us. People blog about all sorts of issues, from babies to beauty, photography to politics, and everything else in between.

So when I heard that a new conference had been created, bringing together women across cyberspace, I thought, well why not give it a go? So I bought my ticket to CybHer UK.

This event, taking place in London in May this year, promises to be packed full of interesting speakers and I’m genuinely looking forward to meeting some of the women whose blogs I’ve been enjoying over the last year.

I’m also really excited to be working with the brilliantly innovative baby brand Brother Max again. Brother Max sponsored me to attend the MAD Blog Awards last year and, yet again, this gorgeous brand is making sure I don’t miss the party.

I’ll be reviewing some incredibly funky and practical products from Brother Max ahead of CybHer UK – so I apologise in advance if you don’t have children but find yourself inexplicably lusting after a room thermometer or specialist nightlight. It’s understandable, they are rather pretty after all.

In the meantime, here are my basic stats. If you’re going to CybHer UK look out for me – I’ll be the one wandering around pretending I’m totally au fait with SEO and search engines…

Name: Molly Forbes (unless you’re asking for the married name, in which case, it’s Molly Weaver)

Blogs: Mother’s Always Right, Heart Wiltshire Breakfast Blog

Twitter ID: @mothersright

Height : 5’4″ (and a vital 3/4)
Hair : Blonde and shabby

Five things you should know about me…

1. I’m used to getting up ridiculously early – either for my 19 month old or for my breakfast radio show. Both keep me busy.
2. I’m married to a teacher who likes to think of himself as the north’s answer to Jean-Claude Van Damme.
3. I love Take That. Gary Barlow doesn’t yet know about me, but this is just a matter of time.
4. I have a passion for prawns. Passion is not too strong a word in this case.
5. I am a first time mum and constantly question if my haphazard approach to parenting is the “right” one. I’ve long since given up ever knowing the magic answer.

Don’t worry, this isn’t a post about stripping or catchy tunes from 2002.

Instead, I’m going to talk to you today about thermometers. Or rather, a thermometer. Being the terribly ill-prepared (pun not intended, but while it’s there I’m going to stick with it) parents that we are, the (self-proclaimed) Northern Love Machine and myself have never invested in a baby thermometer.

On the rare couple of occasions we’ve needed one, we’ve nipped next door and borrowed theirs. But as time goes on and the amount of earwax Frog shares with the neighbours increases, we thought it about time to make a thermometer purchase.

So which to choose?

Well there are the ones that go on the forehead, the ones that go in the ear, the good old-fashioned mouth ones. And how about those room temperature measuring thingys? But even better, what about a thermometer that does the lot?

Meet the 3-in-1 digital thermometer by Brother Max:

Just as it says on the box, the Brother Max 3-in-1 digital thermometer can be used to measure the temperature of the room or your baby, either in their ear or on their forehead (the baby’s, not the room’s. Obviously).

Clearly it comes with a manual, but as an inherently lazy and corner-cutting type person, I’m not a big fan of manuals. And guess what? I actually managed to work out how to use it myself. It really is that easy.

But the best thing about it – the thing that really got me excited…IT COMES WITH BATTERIES!

Now, everyone knows you have to take out shares with Duracel when you have a baby. With mobiles and activity stations and all-singing toys etc etc batteries are a vital part of family life. And because of a pact between the secret battery police and the people who make most baby stuff, you have to buy your own batteries for everything baby-related. Everything, that is, except the 3-in-1 digital thermometer by Brother Max.

In true review style, I was going to take some beautiful photographs of Frog trying out the thermometer. Unfortunately, she hasn’t been in the posing mood recently – although you’d never have guessed it by the way she’s clutching her hairbrush…

So seeing as Frog wasn’t up for a photo, may I present you with my alternative model…

On second thoughts, it probably wasn’t a good idea to let the biggest hypochondriac known to man loose on the thermometer. Since this picture was taken he’s been “trying it out” every half hour, just to check he’s OK. *sigh*

Anyway, if you’re thinking of investing in a very good thermometer, which can be used on babies and hypochondriacs alike, then look no further. And remember, the Brother Max 3-in-1 digital thermometer can also be used to measure the temperature of rooms – if you can prise it off your resident hypochondriac, that is.

The Brother Max 3-in-1 digital thermometer is available to buy from Boots, Tesco, Mamas & Papas, Sainsbury’s, Amazon, Kiddicare and JoJo Maman Bebe.

Disclaimer: I received no payment for this review. I did, however, receive a 3-in-1 digital thermometer to review, for which the NLM is very grateful.

Getting married is pretty expensive, as is saving for a house.

So I am hugely pleased that the wonderful Brother Max brand is sponsoring me to go to the MAD Blog Awards in London in September. I was all prepared to do my acceptance speech for the Best Baby Blog Award via video link on a big screen, but now it turns out I don’t have to.

Of course it could all go horribly wrong. This sponsorship malarkey could actually mean I’ll have to sit there and clap enthusiastically as one of the other finalists goes to accept their award.

*sigh*

As sponsors go, Brother Max couldn’t be a more perfect fit for Frog and I. Not only are they really rather lovely people (honestly – they’re not even paying me to say that), but they make some pretty amazing stuff. Take their combi bibs for example, perfect for messy eaters like Frog.

And then there’s their bath toy brush. This is the dream toy for a baby who has a penchant for preening, even if her hair style hasn’t quite caught on yet…

If preening and keeping clean isn’t your baby’s thing, then there are plenty of other innovative products from Brother Max which may catch your eye. Here are their latest offerings – don’t blame me if you suddenly feel the urge to start spending though…

So thank you Brother Max. Thank you for saving the day and sending me to that there London for the big night. Thank you for inventing beautiful things to keep my baby clean and preened. And thank you for being generally rather lovely people.

Now, who does one speak to about wedding sponsorship round here?!
