Their Nibs London

A couple of weeks ago a beautiful parcel arrived through our door. It’s the kind of PR sample I love, all wrapped up in soft tissue paper and presented in a swish fabric tote. This was my first experience of Their Nibs, a brand specialising in vintage style children’s clothing.

To be honest, it’s the kind of brand that I regularly drool over on other blogs and in swanky magazines, but only actually buy from for special events. Having had no special events to prepare for until recently, Their Nibs had completely passed me by. But then, last weekend, we had a family Christening to go to. I was looking for an outfit for my three year old that would be comfy enough for her to wear during a church service, but posh enough for a special occasion. And that’s where the blouse sent to us by Their Nibs comes in.

Their Nibs blouse

She did look far smarter than this at the beginning of the day, honest. But this picture was taken post-hide and seek game, running around playing chase with her cousins and eating far too much cake. Still, the top looks good, no?

The designs at Their Nibs are all vintage-esque, with an added dose of whimsy. This particular blouse is in a soft chiffon fabric, in a pale blue with fairies and swans detailed on the print. There are some lovely details, like the gathered sleeves, buttons on the top of the blouse and little buttonhole fastening at the neck.

We teamed the blouse with a black tutu style layered skirt and a Ted Baker fake fur gilet. It was just the right amount of fancy. For a more casual look, the top could be worn with jeans, although it’s too special for a regular day at pre-school.

If you’re looking for something a bit different then head to the Their Nibs website. You’ll find retro inspired clothes for boys and girls, from babies up to ten year olds.

Panda top

I’ve always been a bit of a sucker for kids’ clothes. Actually, I’ve always been a bit of a sucker for clothes, full stop. Right back to those heady days, aged 12, when I would save up for a new T’shirt from Tammy Girl, through to the late teens when a night out would mean an excuse to pop to Topshop for a new dress.

These days, I get as much pleasure in finding cool new stuff for my three year old to wear as I do in finding a new outfit for myself. Whether it’s a charity shop find (Boden dress with the price tag on recently – purchased for £3.25, get in!) or a more upmarket purchase, as long as the outfit is bold, fun and not covered in pink glitter, then we are happy. Frog is becoming increasingly picky about what she’ll agree to wear, so it looks like she may be developing her mother’s love of clothes.

Recently, Frog had a bit of a growth spurt. She’s now all arms and legs, so many of her former wardrobe staples have had to be put to one side. We have a few little pieces that have replaced them though, including this cute panda top from Le Marchand d’Etoiles.

Panda top 2Made from super soft cotton, this little long-sleeved T’shirt features possibly the coolest panda I’ve ever seen, complete with geek specs and a bow-tie. This is Frog’s favourite top at the moment and whenever it’s dirty and she can’t wear it, there are almost guaranteed tantrums. It cost 25,00 €, so it’s not a budget top, but the quality of the cotton is so good I think it’s worth the cash.

Next up is this incredibly cosy and stylish parka jacket from Tesco’s F&F range.

F&F parka

It’s by Regatta, and cost £30, which is a bargain considering it’s fully lined, with handy pockets, a (fake) fur trimmed hood and zip and velcro fastenings.

The coat goes equally well with Frog’s snazzy chelsea boots or her bright hi-tops but, most importantly, it’s comfortable and warm which, when you’re three, is all that matters really.

kids hat

And finally, just as popular as the new coat and top, is the matching beanie and gloves, also from the F&F range. The hat was a bargain at £4 and the gloves (which also convert into mittens) were £3. With little pearls sewn into them and a chunky knit design, they are soft and beautiful. In fact, they’re SO soft and beautiful that Frog refuses to take them off, even when we’re inside.

Hat and gloves set

The only thing that would make all of these clothes better is if they came in an adult version. Unfortunately, they’re a bit on the small side for me.

Linking up to Wednesday’s Wardrobe at Emma and 3.

Review

I have no shame in admitting I often get clothes envy when I dress my toddler. Her huge collection of outfits – made up of hand-me-downs, second hand bargains, new presents from relatives and the odd Mum splurge – is a sight to behold. And now she has a new addition. A top from Little Punk London.

Little Punk LondonThis is a top like nothing I’ve ever come across before.

The soft long sleeved top is made from 100% cotton, making it really cosy and comfortable. But the thing that really makes this t’shirt is the added extras. Namely, the animals.

The version we have features all of Frog’s favourites – a lion, elephant, giraffe, zebra and monkey – meaning this top has become an instant favourite. Each animal is embroidered with huge attention to detail and sticks on to the velcro-friendly strip across the front of the t’shirt.

My toddler loved picking and choosing which animals she would have on her top. Sometimes they all made the grade, but sometimes she banished one or two in a Simon Cowell like manner.

Little Punk London t'shirt play setMy only concern is that the top is white. White and my toddler do not always mix. So I think it might be a t’shirt that doesn’t get an outing to the nursery. Either that or I’ll have to buy the red or black version too.
