As I attempted to take a photo on my phone of the beautiful view, I accidentally hit the button that turns the camera round, so you end up staring back at yourself instead of what is in front of you.

I’m not loving the way I look at the moment. It’s something I’ll no doubt blog about soon, but it’s a safe bet that if you scrolled through my recent phone photos you wouldn’t find any of me; it’s all about a cute three year old and an often photo-phobic husband. 

But this picture… well. I like it. It was a funny moment, as the (self-proclaimed) Northern Love Machine peered in to see what Frog and I were laughing about on my phone. It reminds me of a brilliant morning exploring a new place.

It’s us. A brigade of three.

Living in a rented cottage means painting the walls to “make the place our own” is out of the question. But that doesn’t mean we can’t adorn them will all sorts of pretty things.

We have paintings that my grandma and aunt painted, prints from Picasso and Andy Warhol, as well as a lovely painting given to us as a wedding present.

We also have lots of photographs. Lots and lots of photographs.

But there’s an even bigger portion of beautiful photos just sitting on my computer, hiding away. Many of these are the stunning photographs from our wedding day, some of which I keep meaning to get printed and framed. It’s one of those jobs that’s been on my to-do list for over a year now.

So when Hello Canvas challenged me to pick a photograph to put on a canvas and hang on a wall, I knew the one I would go for immediately. It’s the only picture of our little family that we have – or the only one that we like anyway.

Taken on our wedding day, at the end of August last year, I can’t help but smile whenever I see it. And now that’ll be every day, thanks to the gorgeously upmarket canvas we now have.

I’ve been shortlisted as a finalist in the MAD Blog Awards 2011. Yes, me. Yours truly. I know, I can’t believe it either.

This ‘ere blog (excuse the excited Bristolian twang emerging there) is among five finalists in the Best MAD Baby Blog category. Perhaps it’s the deceptively cute pictures of Frog that did it. Or the occasional rant about motherhood. Or maybe you felt sorry for me after I wet my pants in public. Whatever it was, I’m very grateful, really I am.

But this also means I now have to reveal something I’d hoped to put behind me forever. You see, I did promise to share a story with you if I was nominated. It involves firemen, a bath and me. Naked. (This was in my pre-Frog days, when flashing my bits at total strangers was still a novelty.)

And while I’m pleased to see I’m quite good at bribery (a skill I’m sure I’ll need in my future parenting endeavours) I’m also a little scared. I’m a woman of my word though, so if this is something you actually want to hear then I’ll oblige. Just tell me now so I can get it over and done with.

Back to the MAD Blog Awards then. There are fifteen categories, with some amazing blogs in each category. I’m stunned to be included and am now just waiting for the clerical error to be rectified and my name withdrawn. (If this happens, though, I want it noted that the fireman story stays buried forever.)

I say going to because I’m not anymore. That post will have to wait until another day, because I just have to share these amazing photos that my photographer friend emailed me.

They are by a mum in Helsinki. While her baby girl sleeps, she creates these wierd and wonderful fantasy worlds around her, from whatever she can find lying around.

While these photos do make me go aaaaaaaah, I can’t help feeling maybe she has a bit too much time on her hands. Of course, this could just be the inner Competetive Mum in me. Outdone again. Damn.
