I’ve never been lucky. I’m not talking about the richness of life. In that, I consider myself very lucky indeed. I have a beautiful daughter, a husband I love with every part of me and family and friends I would walk over hot coals for. No, I’m talking about “lady luck”. Or, winning stuff.

The first time I ever tried to win anything was on a holiday to the Dominican Republic a good eight or nine years ago. We went to a casino. It was a new experience. I didn’t know how to play the games or place the bets. Plus, I was more interested in the cocktails than the cards held in my hand. And for that reason, I was rather unlucky that night.

Fast forward a few years and I’m entering my first TV competition on a popular daytime TV show. I was off sick and spreadeagled on the sofa, under a duvet with a bucket by my feet. Having never been at home during this time of day before, I was unfamiliar with the numbers of people I was up against. In my mind, I was answering an easy question via the medium of text message. And because I’d never done that before I was bound to win. Turns out I was unlucky in that one too.

I always thought these things were a bit of a joke until recently. This year I met the luckiest lady I’ve come across. She is a regular on the Bingo scene and regularly has big wins. Like, life changing amounts of money wins. Although she doesn’t tend to play bingo online – on sites like Ladbrokes bingo – she is very much “down” with how it all works.

From what she tells me, she regularly has more than one game going at once. This method is clearly successful because she regularly wins. Big.

The thing is, I’m wondering if it’s a technique thing or a luck thing, or a bit of both. If it’s a bit of both then I guess there’s hope for Lady Luck to visit me yet. If it’s just one or the other, well, I’ll just have to keep waiting.
