What mums really want for Mothering Sunday

Mothering Sunday giftsWhat I really want for Mothering Sunday is a lie-in and a cup of tea brought to me in bed, along with a breakfast of poached eggs on toast and a kiss from my diva child. Unfortunately, Sunday morning swimming lessons mean this is pretty unlikely. So, failing the lie-in, I’d like something pretty that I can actually use.

And that’s where the little montage above comes in. All of these things were discovered via my latest obsession, Shopcade. I found this site through a blogger I love – Dexterous Diva – who describes it as a little bit like Pinterest but (probably) more addictive.

Last week, when my husband asked me if I had any requests for Mothering Sunday, I told him that if he was going to be spending cold hard cash on me, I wanted it to be something I could use. If he was going to spend a fiver I’d rather it wasn’t on petrol station flowers, you know what I mean?

And he came up trumps with this little beauty (apparently my two year old handed the money over):

Regency china

This vintage Regency teacup and saucer was discovered at an antiques fair and cost him the grand sum of £6. I’ll use it, display it and then just sit and look at it, because I love it.

And, for me, that’s what I really want from a gift. We work hard for our money, so if we’re parting with it then it has to be for something we can use, or look at, or really, really want because it’s just so beautiful. I love gifts that I wouldn’t normally buy myself – the kind of things that seem too frivolous or indulgent to spend money on.

All the things on my Mothering Sunday gift list on my Shopcade account are things I’d use, admire and indulge in. There isn’t a panic-bought chocolate in sight. I’ve discovered mini tomato plants to put on the window sill, beautiful kashmir spice tubs, unique upcycled vintage cups and saucers, quirky bird feeders, the most snuggly looking slippers I’ve ever seen and some French Macaroons I could scoff in one sitting.

So, daughter of mine, if you’re reading this at some point in the future when you can actually read, then this is what Mummy likes. But, you know, a lie-in and a kiss is totally OK too.

What’s on your Mothering Sunday wish list?
