Party outfits for new mums

Christmas, fashion, maternity fashion, new mum fashion, Pregnancy

If you thought dressing a bump was hard then try dressing a post-pregnancy body. Seriously, I’m having some major clothing issues at the moment. I’ve had more important things to worry about than working on a washboard stomach, so most of my clothes are still a little too snug. And with Christmas just around the corner the search for a party dress for a new mum is ON.

But perhaps the search is over. And the answer to that festive dilemma is perhaps in an unlikely place.

I’m already a fan of some of the everyday clothes on offer from George at ASDA – my beloved yoga pants being a prime example. But did you know you can also find some pretty cool party dresses there too? And not just any old party dresses – party dresses suitable for new and expectant mums alike.

Maternity party outfits

If I was still pregnant then I’d go for one of these dresses from the maternity section. I love the plain black maxi and would dress it up with a statement necklace for extra bling factor. I’m also a sucker for a bit of leopard print so the leopard print tunic dress would probably make it onto my list too – at £8 it’s a steal. Continue reading »

My husband and daughter, the rock stars

Baby Banz

I can’t be the only mum who has serious clothes envy of their kid. My daughter has a pretty rocking wardrobe. From cute handmade dresses and knitted jumpers, made by both of her grandmas, to bright t’shirts and colour clashing leggings and skirts, she certainly doesn’t want for clothes. I regularly wish I had outfits as fun as hers…

Summer wedding maternity wearI’ve been preoccupied for the past couple of months. Every spare moment – on the loo, waiting for the kettle to boil, the moments before sleep at night – has been spent searching. It’s been a long and arduous hunt but, finally, it’s reached an end: I’ve found an outfit to wear to a wedding later this summer, when I will be around eight months pregnant.

Wedding outfits stress me out generally anyway – there’s a certain irony in the fact I found getting an outfit for my wedding the easiest of all. As a guest I always worry that I’ll be a) over-dressed b) under-dressed or c) wearing something someone else is wearing. Wear the right outfit and you can feel pretty good. Wear the wrong outfit and you can feel pretty bad. For me, it’s that simple.  Continue reading »

Their Nibs London

A couple of weeks ago a beautiful parcel arrived through our door. It’s the kind of PR sample I love, all wrapped up in soft tissue paper and presented in a swish fabric tote. This was my first experience of Their Nibs, a brand specialising in vintage style children’s clothing.

To be honest, it’s the kind of brand that I regularly drool over on other blogs and in swanky magazines, but only actually buy from for special events. Having had no special events to prepare for until recently, Their Nibs had completely passed me by.  Continue reading »

Granny chic and a bit of ethical shopping

Christmas shopping, ethical shopping, independent traders

There’s something very pleasing about shopping with independent traders. For me, this is the time of year when the lesser-known brands come into their own, offering items that are a little bit different, made with love, and perfect for giving at Christmas.

If you’re a fan of farmers markets, craft markets and those gorgeous independent shops dotted around high streets up and down the country, you will love MyHigh.St.

I discovered this website while browsing online recently, searching for pretty interiors accessories with a difference. It features products made by independent traders based from the across the UK and comes from a team based in (my beloved) West Country. It’s ethical, often handmade, often vintage, pretty, delicious and vibrant.  Continue reading »

Panda top

I’ve always been a bit of a sucker for kids’ clothes. Actually, I’ve always been a bit of a sucker for clothes, full stop. Right back to those heady days, aged 12, when I would save up for a new T’shirt from Tammy Girl, through to the late teens when a night out would mean an excuse to pop to Topshop for a new dress.

These days, I get as much pleasure in finding cool new stuff for my three year old to wear as I do in finding a new outfit for myself. Whether it’s a charity shop find (Boden dress with the price tag on recently – purchased for £3.25, get in!) or a more upmarket purchase, as long as the outfit is bold, fun and not covered in pink glitter, then we are happy. Frog is becoming increasingly picky about what she’ll agree to wear, so it looks like she may be developing her mother’s love of clothes. Continue reading »

Biker boots

I love boots. Always have done.

I remember being about ten years old and getting a brand new pair of boots for school. The excitement as they crunched on the gravel down the path to the school gates was palpable. They were just a pair of boots, but they made me happy.  Continue reading »

I’m having a thing about my body at the moment.

It’s not a huge thing. And I don’t want to get bogged down in blogging about it (although I probably will, eventually), but it’s a thing nonetheless.

As the weather heats up, rains and heats up again, I’ve been having a daily dilemma about what to wear. I say “dilemma”, and I mean “dilemma”. My more dramatic moments have seen me point blank refuse to leave the house. It’s that body thing again, you know.  Continue reading »

As a brand ambassador for Shopcade, I am lucky enough to call browsing this social shopping site “work”. Shopcade is a bit like Pinterest – you create lists of things you love, people follow those lists, and you win points which lead to rewards. Pretty much every brand out there is on Shopcade, so there’s always something to find.

My latest Shopcade obsession is my “Summer Days Out” list. Whether it’s an outfit, a bit of kit or a handy item to make day trips easier, I’m on it.

You can see the full list over on my Shopcade pages (along with all my other lists of wants). Here are some picks from the last few days… Continue reading »

Joy Dresses

One of the things I like best about being a Shopcade ambassador is discovering new brands.

Until recently, I’d never come across Joy The Store or 18 and East before – but what a discovery that was.

I’m currently in the market for a range of wedding outfits to kit me out for the gazillion weddings I have this year. Weddings don’t come particularly cheap, so I’m not keen on spending a fortune on a different dress each time. But now, with the help of trusty Shopcade, I don’t need to. Continue reading »
