School shoes for a hypermobile tot

School shoes

It’s not something I write so much about these days, but my four year old has hypermobile joints. It doesn’t affect us hugely now she can walk, but we had a rocky time when she was a non-toddling toddler. Put simply, her joints are too flexible, which meant she struggled to walk until she was two years old and needed special boots plus plenty of physiotherapy. She still occasionally has physio treatment and, when she broke her leg last summer, she had to have extra sessions to learn to walk again.

These days, her hypermobility is often something we forget about. She can run and jump with the best of them. But when it comes to choosing shoes for Frog we’ve struggled.  Continue reading »

BHS uniform, getting ready for school, primary school, school uniform

Uniform for schoolSchool uniform. Whatever your opinion about it, if you’re a parent of a child going to school in the UK, chances are you’ll be knee deep in it right about now.

When I went to primary school many moons ago we didn’t have a uniform, so I still find it a bit weird to see little kids dressed up in such smart gear as they trot off to school.

The thing is, these little kids have always been strangers to me. I’ve just passed them in the street or seen the First Day At School photos their mums and dads have posted on Facebook. Until now. Because, in September, that will be me.

I blame the pregnancy hormones, but the photos in this post made me shed a little tear. This definitely feels like the biggest milestone yet… Continue reading »

Baby Banz

I can’t be the only mum who has serious clothes envy of their kid. My daughter has a pretty rocking wardrobe. From cute handmade dresses and knitted jumpers, made by both of her grandmas, to bright t’shirts and colour clashing leggings and skirts, she certainly doesn’t want for clothes. I regularly wish I had outfits as fun as hers…

Saltskin

When we moved to Devon last summer we pledged to buy ourselves a wetsuit each. Living so near the beach means we spend a lot of time by the sea and it’s certainly not just a bonus we enjoy in the summer. The beach is for all year round, in my opinion.

Being in my pregnant state means that I haven’t got around to getting a wetsuit yet. Nor has the (self-proclaimed) Northern Love Machine. My daughter, on the other hand…

Saltskin Wetsuits

This is from the shorties range at Saltskin Wetsuits, possibly the coolest brand of wetsuits available for kids.  Continue reading »

Summer dress from Yellow Mellon

When I first became a mum to a little girl, I didn’t realise that I would suffer wardrobe envy quite so soon. At the tender age of almost-four, Frog has a better collection of clothes than I do. Annoying.

Whenever we go into charity or vintage shops looking for the odd treasure, I often come out armed with something cute for her. She also gets given lots of clothes from generous family and friends (it’s SO unfair) and, of course, I sometimes treat her myself. I mean, how am I meant to resist when there are so many cool brands for kids around?!  Continue reading »

Bobux Boots, kids fashion, Review

Boots

We love shoes in this house. Despite having bendy feet and needing special hospital-issue insoles because of her hypermobility, my three and three quarter year old is obsessed with shoes. She takes after her mum like that. So when the lovely people at Bobux got in touch to see if we’d be interested in reviewing a pair from their range it was an immediate “yes”.

I did have reservations though – would they fit properly? How would I know if they were suitable for my tot’s bendy ankles without trying them on first? Would they be sturdy enough to withstand all the dancing / jumping / running that my energetic child would be bound to do in them?  Continue reading »
