No one tells you that having a baby changes your taste in clothes. I wasn’t prepared for the fact that motherhood would lead me past the racks of pretty dresses and short skirts while out shopping, as I searched instead for the perfect nursing shirt, or a comfy pair of flat boots I could rock to the baby and toddler group. Clothes became about practicality AND style.
Enter the Andalusia Chelsea Boot from Chatham Marine. These boots are perfect for my afternoon Mum Uniform. You see, when you spend time with young children, you need clothes that you can run in, jump in and aren’t afraid to get messy. But I’m not quite ready to sacrifice style altogether, so these boots are a perfect compromise.
The navy suede is a practical colour; dark enough not to show up obvious scuffs from a toddler jumping on your toes, but stylish enough to still look pretty cool with a pair of skinny jeans or some cable knit tights and a skirt.
I’m a fan of the ankle boot height that’s everywhere at the moment. They’re easy to pull on if you’re in a rush to get out of the door and there’s no faffing around with zips and buckles. Plus, they make my legs look deceptively longer than they actually are.
The attention to detail isn’t to be scoffed at either. I really like the contrasting white stitching on the navy suede, adding a nice little bit of interest to the sides of the boots.
Perhaps most important of all though, these boots are COMFY. Like, properly comfy. Slipper comfy.
They easily withstand an afternoon traipsing around after a busy two year old, but I don’t feel like I’ve completely let my former fashionista down, as they look good too.
Now just to find that elusive pair of perfect fit jeans to go with them. Or lose a stone in weight and get back into my skinnies. Sigh.
How has your taste in clothes changed since having kids?

I spent a whole year in shirts I could easily open and t’shirts I could lift up. Not a dress in sight! x
I am still wearing maternity clothes as we are thinking we might have another baby and I just can’t be bothered to buy new clothes that I might not be able to wear again next year. The baby years are not exactly glam in this house!

Ooh nice boots. Motherhood made me more conscious and interested in style. Especially once I had lost my baby weight after my first. Always loved style but feel more daring post kids! Just need to get back into my wardrobe after second now!
