Small Home Fixes That Save My Sanity as a Mum

I’ve always thought of our home as the backdrop to our family story, the place where we make memories, trip over Lego, and somehow go through an entire loaf of bread in a single afternoon. But like most mums, I’ve learned that keeping that backdrop from descending into complete chaos requires a mix of creativity, trial-and-error, and the occasional deep breath.

One of the best home organisation tips for mums I’ve picked up is sorting out our hallway. I used to spend my mornings playing detective, tracking down missing school shoes, digging for car keys, and unearthing half-finished art projects from under the buggy. Now, a simple row of hooks, a shelf for keys, and a basket for all the “bits and bobs” has transformed our mornings. It’s not glamorous, but it’s magic.

Another lesson I’ve learned is that the quality of what we use day-to-day matters more than I realised. I used to buy the cheapest option just to tick things off the list, but over time I’ve discovered that sturdy, well-made supplies save both money and frustration.

That’s how I came across ready set supplied as a go-to for practical home solutions and family-friendly DIY products that actually last. Whether it’s tools for small repairs, outdoor supplies, or bits for quick fixes, having them on hand has saved me countless “oh no” moments.

And speaking of DIY, I’ve found that involving the kids in small home projects can be a win-win. They love the responsibility, and I get a little help (even if it’s just holding the tape measure). It turns chores into shared moments and sometimes into unplanned lessons about how things work.

For me, time-saving ideas for busy parents often come down to small, repeatable habits. Doubling up on favourite meals so there’s always something in the freezer. Keeping a stash of birthday cards and wrapping paper for those last-minute party invites. Even grouping cleaning supplies where they’re most used, so I’m not constantly trekking back and forth.

But here’s the truth: even with all the systems, clever storage, and handy supplies in the world, some days will still be messy. On those days, I let go of the pressure, pile onto the sofa with the kids, and declare it a “low-effort dinner night.” The house will still be there tomorrow, but my little ones won’t always be this little.

Because at the end of the day, the best “home fix” isn’t just about organising or repairing it’s about making life at home feel a little lighter, so there’s more space for the good stuff.
